Home Studio Yoga offers beginner yoga classes in San Anselmo, CA, designed for people who are new to the practice, nervous about starting, or returning after a long break.

Starting yoga for the first time can feel intimidating.
Not just a little uncomfortable, but the kind of feeling where you keep thinking about trying a class, and then for one reason or another, you don’t.
A lot of that comes from what people think yoga is supposed to look like. The version you see on social media or in magazines, where everything looks polished, flexible, and effortless. It can make it seem like you need to already know what you’re doing before you even begin.
That’s usually where the hesitation starts, that feeling of I’m not going to be good enough…
At Home Studio Yoga, that’s not really how we approach the practice. We’re not focused on achieving a perfect posture or keeping up with a certain pace, and we’re not teaching whatever trend happens to be popular at the moment.
For a lot of people, that ends up feeling very different from what they expected.
It’s something we hear often from our students, that it doesn’t feel performative. There isn’t pressure to push past your limits or to look a certain way in the room. Instead, there’s space to move at your own pace and figure things out as you go.

If you’re feeling intimidated, it doesn’t mean you’re not ready. It usually just means you haven’t experienced this kind of environment yet.
Starting with the right class and the right intention can make a big difference. Our Welcome (Back) to Yoga classes are designed to ease you in, with more guidance and time to get familiar with the basics. Mindful Flow offers a steady pace without rushing, so you can actually feel what you’re doing instead of just trying to keep up.
Yoga Foundations helps break things down in a way that makes the practice more approachable, especially if everything feels new. And Align, Restore, Connect is slower and more supported, with a focus on releasing tension and reconnecting rather than pushing yourself.
We do offer stronger classes, like our powerful flows and we offer very gentle ones too, like restorative yoga, but they’re all built around the same idea. Not how the movement looks, but how it feels in your body, and how it connects to your breath.
We believe that’s really the practice.
Over time, the feeling of being out of place starts to shift. You begin to recognize things, the shapes, the rhythm of a class, even familiar faces in the room. It becomes less about trying to get it right, and more about just showing up.
If you’re looking to start yoga in San Anselmo, it helps to find a space that feels approachable from the beginning.
And if you’re not sure what to expect, you can also read our blog post on what your first yoga class is like.
You don’t need to wait until you feel more flexible or more confident. You can just start where you are and see how it feels.
With love,
Martine
